Swedish author Selma Ottilia Lovisa Lagerlo?f (1858-1940), the first woman to win the Nobel Prize in Literature. Lagerlo?f’s writings often have been regarded as a prototype for Scandinavian pastoral literature. Henry B. Goodwin (the photographer of the image) took another approach to his subject. He portrayed the fiercely independent and iconoclastic author as a symbol of Scandinavian resolution and physical presence. Year- 1917 to 1920. Location: Stockholm.
